For 2.5 years I worked on a two person team producing five monthly magazines for Gannett Pacific, using the publications’ established aesthetic guidelines and templates: the 101 magazine was distributed in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area; the Foothills and Oro Valley magazines were distributed in the Tucson area; and the GVH and S magazines were distributed in the Las Vegas area.
Image and edit content were provided by Gannett; I handled all image conversions and color correcting. We had roughly 3-4 (overlapping) days each month to design and obtain management approval for each magazine. Ads were placed with low-rez ad markers. On the day of upload, the ad department would provide all the high-rez ads for us to flow in. Editing during the layout stage was accomplished using inCopy for ease of designer-editor collaboration. Once approved by management, each page was written to high-rez pdf and uploaded to the printer's site using Kodak Insite, where each page was then manually approved for printing.
